Lisann and Antonia all sewn up!

Every time I open a Farbenmix pattern I haven't sewn up before I get SO excited!
This time I started out with a mission...
I wanted to showcase that one could sew 2 Lisann skirts with just half a yard of each European fabric!
And I did :-)) Ella's skirt is a size 110/116 (she is almost 6 and big for her age)
and it is the double layered version. Romy's skirt is in a size 98-104 and is the more simpler one layered version. Both were very easy to put together. I suspect for advanced beginners it is not important to have written English instructions, the picture tutorial will be plenty of help.
Ella and Romy helped pick the fabrics and I have to say, they did a fantastic job! We chose:
Combi Flowers in Pink, Border Flowers Pink, Romantic Roses Pink, Flowers and Dots Pink all by Stenzo and in Ella's skirt we also used Busillis Poplin in Pink/Lime and Busilis in Pink/Red by Hilco.
The Antonia's are made using Hilco and Stenzo knits but also the most wonderful and super soft organic Jersey in red/raspberry big stripes.

I got the best compliment by Ella. She said, that she is so lucky to have a Mama who knows how to sew and Finn said, that you simply couldn't get such pretty clothes in a store. Those comments made my day!!

Snow in April

Yesterday afternoon it started to snow. Just the day before the squirrels were chasing each other and birds were flying carrying nesting material in their beaks. Spring is here for sure I thought. Snow in April is something this former California resident has to get used to!

The Kids however were in heaven of course and at not quite 7:30 AM they were outside having a blast, giving my husband and myself time to drink our morning coffee in peace and quiet :)

Finn received an award and we went on a trip

This was Finn's expression when he was called up on the stage in the auditorium to receive his award for being "dependable"! He had no idea, because we kept it a secret :) We were so proud of him and he was just glowing for the rest of the day!

After the first big surprise for Finn, we surprised all of the children with a trip to grandma. We had a beautiful weekend there, the weather felt like summer and I got a cute picture of Romy.

I also met again with a wonderful and talented seamstress whom I have first met online when I purchased a new born outfit for a dear friend who had her first baby boy. Even though I sew myself, sometimes I have no time and Eva's outfits at Boutique Linnea are always amazing. I was in absolute awe at her fabric stash and realized that my husband should really not complain anymore ;)

Here are some of her creations by Farbenmix: Sasha, Anna and Cara

I am itching to sew

I just received great new patterns and am itching to sew! My daughters Ella and Romy will be so happy with Lisann and in combination with Antonia they should be the best dressed Girls on the block :) I also love, love Isabelle. The big pocket on the front of the tunic is perfect to carry a small treasure or loved stuffed animal around... As soon as I have made my fabric choices I will go to town with my sewing machine and start on their summer wardrobe!

Free entertainment on a Sunday morning

My Son Finn has developed a love for the group Kiss. It was after I read the book
Look me in the eye, by John Elder Robinson and I told Finn about how John Elder had invented amazing guitars for the group that he wanted to know much, much more about them and the shows they gave. My Finn is like that. He is 8 years old and reads more than most adults do and has a never ending appetite for yet more information and once he falls in love with a subject he will not let go until he truly thinks he knows it all and even us adults are more educated than we were before he started to pester us with never ending questions.
That could be because he is a child with Aspergers. John Elder is an adult with Aspergers and I read the book with great interest.
Well here we are on a Sunday morning, Kiss playing very loudly and Finn dancing up a storm! I absolutely love mornings like these.

Podcast at Boutique Cafe

Sometimes you read blogs or belong to a board on the internet and over time you really feel you know the people you read about on an almost daily basis. But it is always a surprise nevertheless when you actually meet those people, people that have become friends over months sometimes years, in real life. Because of course there is always something missing when you know each other only through the written word. You finally get to look into each others eyes while talking observe gestures and hear laughter and that finally makes a complete impression.
I know that most would say (and have done so) that meeting me surprised them in the sense, that I look very young (thanks Mom for those lovely genes) and most of all sound very young.
It has happened a few times, that someone called my house and asked to speak to my parents... Yes, I am not kidding. While I am usually amused by their squirmish response on the other end of the telephone line, when I tell them that I am the Mother in the house, it has also been a source of frustration at other times when I would like to be taken serious.
Therefore I felt great pleasure that Daria of Boutique Cafe asked me if I would like to be interviewed by her for one of her podcasts, but at the same time I wondered about my voice! So when you listen to the podcast be assured that I am not really 13 years old ;-)
I had a great time during the interview once the nervousness passed. Daria is fabulous and Boutique Cafe is a wonderful spot to hang out and learn about designers, small businesses like mine and much, much more.
Here is the podcast about Bunte Fabrics. Enjoy :)

A photographer I am not

But I wanted to show the Abacadabra pattern # 75 sewn up for Romy. It was very easy to sew (I am an advanced beginner) and looks so cute in my humble opinion. I made it in size 92, Romy is 3 and it fits very well. I used 1 yard of La Ragazzina fabric for the dress and 1/2 a yard of Campan fabric for the leggings. Romy was not a happy camper when I took the pictures... I need to remember to have a stock of jelly beans in the house!

Hello there blog

This is a HUGE step for me! Even though tons and tons of people have blogs, I never thought I would dare have one of my own. For one, English remains my second language ( I was born in Germany, and have been a legal alien for 18 years) (btw. isn't it funny to be called an alien?) and even though I speak it, well spelling remains a mystery to me and my husband is not always available to proof read what I write..So please bear with me and don't smirk too hard at my silly mistakes.
Second, it is not always apparent that you actually have something to write about. Won't the general public be bored out of their minds by my "adventures" or "thoughts" as a mother and shop owner?
I do not want to bore people and I can only hope that there is actually a witty person in me with a tiny fraction of intelligence.. Hopefully this "Haha !...And isn't she smart!" person will emerge. If not, I apologize in advance.
Third... Well, I don't have a third as to why I never dared to blog. Which is why I may have started to.
Anyway, here you go.
I will share a little about my family, fabric, sewing, painting, life, thoughts etc... with you and hopefully I will also get to know some of you as well!
