I love polka dots and toad stool mushrooms

About two weeks ago I made this outfit for Romy and I have to say it is one of my all time favorite outfits. I have this crazy love for red and white polka dots. Something about the color combination reminds me of my childhood. My red and white polka dot kindergarten lunch bag and my red and white polka dot rubber ball were priced items of mine and I don't think I'll ever
fall out of love with polka dots ;-)
Qumaira really is an addictive pattern. So easy to sew, the fit is really wonderful and with endless design possibilities! I also used up my last of the wonderful Heather Ross toadstool fabric to sew another Empirchen a great e-book at Farbenmix.

As you can see however Romy was less then impressed! She is 3 1/2 and that equals the age of 16 were everything Mama loves specially is definitely NOT ok! I am so sorry my Dear to make you wear it and even have to "pose" for pictures ;) Since then she is actually liking the assemble
because I have learned not to make a fuzz about new outfits that come out of the sewing room.

Last but not least I used one of the glass toadstool mushroom buttons found here. They are hand painted and very cute. I strongly advice though, to wrap them in foil when you wash a garment with these buttons, to protect the paint and the button itself.

New glasses!

A while back I noticed for the first time that Ella looked gross eyed, when she got tired mostly. Shortly after I made that first observation it got really bad to the point were she was almost always gross eyed (specially her right eye). We took her to an eye Dr. and he told us that she is very, very far sited on her right eye. She has obviously always been but we just never knew. In fact if I loose something, I always ask Ella to help me find it because she is Ella eagle eyes!
Today her glasses finally arrived. She was SO excited to go and pick them up and has been happily wearing them all day, so far with no major problems (like head aches or feeling dizzy) other then having to wash them twice during lunch because she got mayonnaise on her lenses :)
Here is my beautiful Girl with her spanking new eye gear!

And a sprinkle of fairy dust...

Ella loves having party's. She is turning 6 soon and has been planing her Birthday party for close to 1/2 a year now. Talk about pressure! I-must-not-disappoint :)
So for a while now I have been living and breathing everything fairy. I have gotten some great advice from lovely fellow sewing mama's but I am SO glad that I only have to invent myself into
Martha Stewart once a year...For now, until Romy catches on. Thank goodness Finn is easy to please!
Any ideas on a special birthday dress for my Girl? What fabric, what pattern, Applique?

Qumaira and Quiara

Today after some gardening (we actually have very nice weather for a change) I finally got to sew. I have been really, really excited about Qumaira, ever since I first saw it at Farbenmix ( I am a sucker for flair pants, maybe being a child of the 70's) and so I just had to sew Ella a pair! Too bad I didn't have the time for the scalloped edge detail but next time I will definitely go for the scallops ;) The fit is great but for girls with a bit of a behind, you should add more seam allowance. Ella's pants are very "tailored" . Quiara is a shirt, that goes together really fast and has an awesome fit! All in all a good sewing day and my girl is happy :)
I used Hada Cereza poplin it was really, really nice to work with and some Vivi Ete.

I have been busy sewing

First up Isabelle by Farbenmix. I used mostly all organic fabrics and embellished the tunic with
cute ribbons. I really liked how it turned out and it was quite easy to sew! The pants came out too long on my short legged, little girl, so next time I will have to size them down a bit, but the fit otherwise is perfect!

Second I made a pair of Zuma pants by Studio Tantrum for Ella, these are really easy to sew and with the wide wrap around legs give you a big canvas to be creative :). I also made her a top and matching hair band. Empirchen and the head band are ebooks at Farbenmix.

Last but not least I used Chubasco , the water resistant popeline to sew Ella a vest. I used the Elisa pattern and lined it with soft velour. I love how it came out but I nearly lost all faith, that I can actually sew while I worked on the vest. I believe I will need to buy a new seam ripper the old one is all used up ;-)

Oh boy!

Oh how envious I am of our cat Chester, peacefully napping in the middle of the day, not a worry in the world.. Can you learn life lessons from a cat? How to just take a breather, when ever life becomes too hectic, to tune out disturbances and not take everything too seriously?

Oommm....
