Many years ago I stared to paint the lids of my children's lunch baskets. In Waldorf Kindergarten, this is what children use to carry their lunches in : ) To make them special and so that my children would spot theirs when all the baskets were lined up in the cubbies, I came up with special illustrations for each child. Low and behold, they became quite popular in our local Waldorf community and I bet that there still are some of "my" baskets in Waldorf households to this day.
I am now offering them on etsy in my shop. In addition to painting the lids, I also sewed removable, waterproof linings.
The lids are "painted" with colored pencils. I fell in love with the texture that the wood and the pencils create. It is at soft and somewhat unpredictable texture that makes the illustrations glow I think. After they are painted I seal them, to protect the illustration and so that they can be wiped clean.
My daughter is using her basket now to keep her handwork in and they would also make a great decoration in ones house. My mother in law displays her basket during the holiday season when her house is decked out to the nines : ))
I hope you enjoy!!
